S. Pietro in Vincoli Cloister - 10 June 2024, 19:00-20:30
A Welcome Party will take place on Monday 10 June in the 15th century Cloister of the Basilica of S. Pietro in Vincoli. Before the beginning of the event, it will be possible to visit the nearby Basilica of S. Pietro in Vincoli (which closes at 7pm), best known for being home to Michelangelo's statue of Moses.

Visit to the Capitoline Museums

The complex of the Capitoline Museums, the world's first public museum, allows you to admire a few masterpieces: from the arrangement of the bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius and the Capitoline Wolf, in a surprising glass hall that reproduces the oval shape of the Michelangelo's square, to the foundations of the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, the Capitolium, of which it is possible to reconstruct the floor plan; from the rooms frescoed by Cavalier d'Arpino with the stories of the foundation of Rome, to the splendid view of the Roman Forum from the arches of the Tabularium, the ancient archive of ancient Rome.

Visit to the complex of the Markets of Trajan

An opportunity to visit one of the most important building complexes of ancient Rome built by the emperor Trajan to complete his splendid dynastic forum. The visit will allow you to travel through time across the centuries that saw the transformation of the complex from an administrative center to a castrum, from a monastery to a military barracks, up to the setting up of the splendid "Museum of the Forum" inside. From the terrace overlooking Via Biberatica, you can admire one of the most beautiful views of Rome. After the Markets, the visit will continue by admiring up close the Trajan's Column and the complex of the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument until reaching the Capitoline Square.

Visit to the Roman Forum

If the Colosseum is the symbol of Rome, the archaeological area of the Palatine and the Roman Forum is the heart of the city. There is no event in Roman history that did not have an architectural echo here. A walk to discover the political heart of Rome, the Roman Forum, and the political and ideological change with the realization of the dynastic forums through which the most famous figures of the end of the Republic and the Empire wanted to leave a lasting memory of their personality and their achievements, through architecture and decorative program. From the Forum, we will climb the Palatine Hill which preserves the traces of Romulus' hut, the grandeur of the imperial palace, and one of the most beautiful views of Rome from the terrace overlooking the Circo Massimo.

An evening dedicated to discovering the "first district" of Rome: from its "cut" towers to its traditions, such as the famous stone-throwing, from the charm of important figures, such as Nero, Cesare Borgia, and the Marquis del Grillo, to the "life" in its famous taverns. A journey through history, anecdotes, legends, and a bit of magic.

From the Theater of Marcellus to the Ghetto

A walk between the Capitol Hill, the Portico of Octavia, the archaeological area of the Theatre of Marcellus, and the Tiber Island, among Roman temples, an ancient theater turned noble palace, a pagan portico turned church, fish market, and finally a symbol of the Rome Ghetto. A true and incredible concentration of millennia-old history. We will discover the story of the serpent that chooses the Island as its home, the custom in ancient Rome of declaring war by throwing a spear, the plaque that contributed to inventing "fish soup," and finally, we will talk about the Jewish community, its traditions, and its history, to remember the terrible "Black Saturday."
